DR MANCUSO - RESEARCH AND STUDIES

Dr. Mancuso is heavily involved in research and has published widely in both Local and International journals.  His research has been presented at both domestic and international urology conferences.  Dr. Mancuso has published and presented most extensively on Prostate Cancer including a presentation at the Societe International d’Urologie Meeting in Cape Town, South Africa on Atypical Small Acinar Proliferations (a precancerous condition of the prostate).  Dr. Mancuso’s data set was the largest in Australia to be presented at that time.

Furthermore, research presented by Dr. Mancuso at the NSW Urology Conference focusing on Selenium as a possible new tumour marker won the award as the Best Scientific Presentation at that meeting.

Dr Mancuso’s most recent presentations have focused on the prevailing GP opinions in South West Sydney regarding prostate cancer.  This study aimed to give both urologists and GPs a better understanding of referral patterns, resulting in better outcomes for the men in our community.  This presentation was at the Australian and New Zealand Urology Conference and was mentioned in the Medical Observer’s wrap-up of the most important presentations of the meeting.

Currently, Dr Mancuso is undertaking a prospective study to compare and contrast the cancer-specific and functional results of Robotic versus Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy.  The specific functional results being assessed are continence and erectile recovery as well as time to return to work.  This research will offer a great insight into differences in the two minimally invasive surgical options for Prostate Cancer.
