Dr Lalak

Dr Lalak graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1988. After completing his internship and residency he completed a surgical research year in vascular surgery and obtained a Master of Surgery degree. He wrote a number of papers in vascular surgery, laparoscopic and general surgery in that period of time. Throughout his training he was exposed to general surgery, vascular surgery and cardio vascular surgery, upper GI and colorectal surgery and neurosurgery and completed his urology training in 2000 after spending a fellowship year at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh Scotland.

During his fellowship year in Edinburgh he worked with Mr. David Tolley who was a pioneer in laparoscopic radical nephrectomy. He was also exposed to other endo-urological procedures such as pyeloscopy laser and was involved in the Scottish Lithotripsy Centre undertaking treatment for renal stones. He also worked with Mr Lawrence Stewart where he trained in urethral surgery, reconstructive surgery and urinary incontinence. During his fellowship year a number of presentations were made at international conferences on laparoscopic urology which at that stage was becoming the standard treatment for many urological procedures. This enabled a number of papers to be published on laparoscopic renal surgery and on treatment of renal and ureteric stones with the shock wave lithotripter.

Dr Lalak joined Macarthur Urology in 2001 and is a Visiting Medical Officer at Liverpool Public Hospital and the Macarthur Area Health Service. He also holds accreditations at Campbelltown Private, Strathfield Private and Southern Highlands Private Hospitals.

Dr Lalak has been involved in the teaching of Urology Registrars, Residents, Interns and Medical Students. He has given talks to the local General Practitioners to further their education in Urological management of common conditions. Dr. Lalak has also been involved in giving presentations to the general public on Mens Health and Prostate related issues.

In 2007 he was awarded a Robotic and Laparoscopic Preceptorship at the Cleveland Clinic, Urological & Kidney Institute, Ohio, USA where he was mentored by Prof. I. Gill.

Recently, Dr Lalak has completed the required training in Robotic Surgery and is now offering Robotically Assisted Surgery to his patients.

His main areas of interest and specialty are genito-urinary oncology (prostate cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, testicular cancer), robotic surgery, laparoscopy, laparoscopic renal surgery and treatment of renal, ureteric and bladder calculi with all current available modalities including laser.
